Life in Hex is a podcast by two friends living in the UK. The podcast focuses on a variety of topics that we are interested in, but generally we have 4 sections: Life, Anime/Manga, Gaming, and tech.

What do we cover?

In our Life section we briefly talk about anything interesting that we are doing at the moment, perhaps a holiday we have just been on, or a film we’ve recently seen. We’ll also quickly talk about any administrative stuff going on with Life in Hex e.g. IRC, the forum, the site.

Sefran then covers the Anime and Manga section, where he usually reviews an Anime or a Manga he’s seen or read recently. Sometimes he covers very popular anime/manga, but other times he will delve into the realms of obscurity. Sefran’s manga is usually sourced from our good friend Pachamac, though not always. If there is some interesting news, Sefran will discuss this briefly too (perhaps an English dub has been released of an anime we’ve reviewed before, or a series has come to a close).

Both of us are into gaming, and so the Gaming section is usually a joint section. We will usually review or preview a game, giving both a formal review outline and also our own light-hearted opinions. We usually keep up to date with the recent gaming news, and so will often provide opinions on what’s new and happening in the gaming world (e.g. E3).

Finally, Jalada provides some insight into the world of tech. He tries to be different than other podcasts and usually chooses topics that are not commonly talked about. However as a result, a big tech section is few and far between. However they are often well received, so keep on the look out! If there isn’t a topic to discuss, Jalada will usually have some tech news. We have also reviewed gadgets (for example the Creative Zen Vision :M) and given our opinions on the world of tech!

We also think it’s very important to make listeners aware of how thankful we are for taking their time to listen and provide feedback. If someone has been active in the community, or sent as an email, we will always try to air our views, and give a quick shout-out to the person in question, perhaps with a mention of their own website.

Who are we?

Our backs (placeholder)

Jalada covers the technology side of the show. He is also the one who has set up the website, forum, etc. Just recently finishing college, Jalada is hoping to go to university to study Computer Science. Jalada is the co-founder of Haven Networks, a small hosting, design, and support business run with MixWizard - a member of the ‘LiH Crew’. He is in a gaming clan/community that play a variety of different games: DER Expended Rounds. He is heavily into networking and network security, and just about any piece of tech that he can lay his hands on!

Sefran covers the anime/manga section of the show, along with most of the gaming section. Also just finishing college, he is hoping to go to university, and in the future possibly go to Japan to teach English. Sefran is heavily active in the MMO Ragnarok Online (but likes to keep it separate from his identity as Sefran), and of course is our resident anime and manga “Otaku” (I hope I’m not breaking any rules by saying that! - Jalada).

History of Life in Hex

Life in Hex started out as a “Hey, I thought about doing this, what do you think?”. We did a pilot episode with a couple of microphones and a stereo mixer from Maplin Electronics. Eventually, we decided on a name, and did episode 1. At first the show was expected to be 40 minutes long, but now we struggle to keep it within an hour!

We were inspired to start our own podcast after listening to many an episode of Binary Revolution Radio, and felt that we could offer some interesting views and opinions on oft-talked about subjects, but also include some fresh content (for example our anime and manga content) and be one of the very few British podcasts in existence!

The form of the show has mostly stayed the same since day one. We have different sections, and some podsafe music somewhere in the middle. So far, it has been a good formula, but there is always room for change.

After a few episodes, Life in Hex outgrew it’s place on Dusty Dreams (Jalada’s domain). We were struggling with hosting our episode MP3s, and people were struggling to download them! We decided it was time to buy a domain. So we purchased LifeInHex.com. And now we have a forum, a blog, an IRC channel, and a growing community around us. We are ever thankful for the support our listeners give us, and hope that you all continue to enjoy Life in Hex!
