I said a while ago I was going to do it, but I never got around to it. But now I have. Here are a couple of text files that simply contain a list of all the episodes in either high quality or low quality. Both of them have the same version of the first 5 episodes because they never had two versions, only one. Also the low quality one still contains a couple of supplemental episodes that weren’t made into low quality. So using either of these files will get you every single episode, even though not every episode had a low quality file. Aren’t I good

Enjoy! And thanks for listening

Hi-Quality MP3 list
Low-Quality MP3 list

How can I use these?
I recommend you try using wget for Linux. There’s also plenty of compiled versions for Windows to choose from. Wget can parse these files just simply using
wget -i episodelist[high|low].txt
(obviously use high or low depending on which one you have!) in the directory you have the text file. Wget will download all the episodes into that folder. YMMV using other programs, but anything that can import a download queue should be fine!

Just a quick post to say that we have updated to Wordpress 2.3 on Life in Hex. Yes, we’re still keeping up to date with the site! There may be a couple of changes coming this way soon related to IRC. I think I mentioned on episode 42 about how there’s no easy way to find the information to get onto IRC, nor to get on IRC itself. So I’m probably going to put on a Java IRC Client to make it easier for people to check IRC out.

As always, please contact us if you spot any bugs. Sometimes they appear after a Wordpress upgrade.

Edit: Already found a bug, the extended live archives aren’t working properly at the moment. I’m working on it.
Edit number 2: OK, I’ve kinda fixed ELA. However on the episodes page there is an error message at the top of the page, but otherwise it works OK. I’ve just used a patch from before 2.3 was released, so no doubt there are still some things changed. I’ll keep my eye open for a new version of ELA.

After several attempts at encoding (fuck DirectShowSource man…), here it is: the first ever fully video-ised real episode of Life in Hex. Currently, there is only one format available, however I will make others available soon.

Thanks to Haven Networks (OK, that’s actually Jalada) we have a mirror for this episode, so if you’re getting pathetic throughput from lifeinhex.com try the alternative.

Just a couple of comments about the video: It’s not the most impressively made video ever, but then it’s taken me 42 episodes to work out how! I still think it worked quite well, considering the set up was completely ghetto, and the audio and video are coming from completely different feeds, at different sample rates. Might as well have been on different planets for all the compatibility they had.

If you’ve listened to the show, then it’s worth getting the video (perhaps when it’s smaller) for the slideshow on the music, and the credits at the end.

So without further ado. Here is a list of formats and sources:

Xvid, MP3, 400MB (currently the only format)
Lifeinhex.com (GoDaddy, USA)
HavenNetworks.com (Dreamhost, USA)

Also on a final note, I believe we may be getting some Internal Server Errors on lih.com. Just hit refresh (or ctrl+refresh). It’s always happened, but it seems to be happening more recently.

What’s more, it’s really easy to combine it into BIND, which we talked about last show.

Gaming:

We review Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, at last. We give it 7.5/10.

We talk about some news; Bioshock release, World in Conflict Demo, Medal of Honour Airborne, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts Beta, New Phoenix Wright game, and the gaming conventions going on at the moment. GG to all!

Plugs + Shouts:

Shouts to Matt and Rosie for coming out for Jalada’s Birthday.

Shouts to Elysium for coming along to the Pokemon event.

Shouts to ourselves for getting into university, w00tage!

Plugs to no one

Music from All Days in Garden (MySpace alert!). Thanks to music.podshow.com as usual.

Myself, Sefran, Prowen, and Elysium (Jalada’s girlfriend) took a trip to Peterborough this August to the Nintendo Pokemon Tour of 2007, sponsored by Toys ‘R’ Us. On offer were Mew’s for download, some goodies, a chance to see and try out Pokemon Battle Revolution for the Wii, and of course chance to pwn some noobs and trade some pokes.

We took a bit of footage. We’re still new to the whole video thing, hell I’ve only just managed to work out how to encode properly…sorta…This is 10 minutes long but is about 80MB. I will be putting a smaller version up soon, it’s just ‘cos I can’t be assed to encode yet AGAIN because I keep misjudging it.

So anyway, enjoy, it’s a bit shakey, but what the hell, it’s better than nothing!

A while ago Sefran and I did a test run of some ‘Making of’ footage that we were set to turn into a video for everyone. However it never happened, and I think some of the footage has been overwritten by family video (urgh!), never-the-less, while I was going through the tapes now that I’ve worked out how to do video stuff, I discovered some of it. The most interesting is the footage of our ‘recording studio’ and equipment. A few people have asked to see the equipment we use, so I thought it’d be fun to release it, and you can have a look at our humorously poor filming skills. This is why we stay behind microphones.

If you’d like to see more Video ‘featurettes’, let us know and we’ll see what we can do. We are hopefully going to a Nintendo Pokemon event in a few days, so perhaps we’ll take our video camera along with us!

The shows will begin again in a couple of weeks, it is likely that they will be the final few Life in Hex shows in the current format, as both of us will be leaving for university in September/October. The Life in Hex name will stay alive through our community, and also we are going to continue the show as best as we can in some shape or form. It is likely to turn into an informal show, and may go on a hiatus for a few months while we settle in to our universities.

It may even end up more ‘featurette’ style like this kind of video. Who knows what’s in store…

Enjoy The Video! (AVI, XviD, MP3, 31.6MB, 3:29)
