  • Jalada talks about MojoPac, it’s uses and it’s faults. And also briefly talks about his new IcyBox.
  • We discuss the AMD Phenom processors, and the AMD Spider platform. We talk a bit about AMD and how they are targeting the enthusiast market.
• Anime:
  • Sefran reviews the anime Clannad, and overall gives it 8/10.
  • On the 22nd and 23rd of December, it was Jump Fest 2008.

How can I use these?
I recommend you try using wget for Linux. There’s also plenty of compiled versions for Windows to choose from. Wget can parse these files just simply using wget -i episodelist[high|low].txt (obviously use high or low depending on which one you have!) in the directory you have the text file. Wget will download all the episodes into that folder. YMMV using other programs, but anything that can import a download queue should be fine!

As always, please contact us if you spot any bugs. Sometimes they appear after a Wordpress upgrade.

Edit: Already found a bug, the extended live archives aren’t working properly at the moment. I’m working on it.
Edit number 2: OK, I’ve kinda fixed ELA. However on the episodes page there is an error message at the top of the page, but otherwise it works OK. I’ve just used a patch from before 2.3 was released, so no doubt there are still some things changed. I’ll keep my eye open for a new version of ELA.

Thanks to Haven Networks (OK, that’s actually Jalada) we have a mirror for this episode, so if you’re getting pathetic throughput from lifeinhex.com try the alternative.

Just a couple of comments about the video: It’s not the most impressively made video ever, but then it’s taken me 42 episodes to work out how! I still think it worked quite well, considering the set up was completely ghetto, and the audio and video are coming from completely different feeds, at different sample rates. Might as well have been on different planets for all the compatibility they had.

If you’ve listened to the show, then it’s worth getting the video (perhaps when it’s smaller) for the slideshow on the music, and the credits at the end.

  • We’re back, this may be our penultimate show!
  • We had an email from Alexander about DNS Tunnel, as a follow-on from our talk about DNS last episode.
• Life:
  • Both of us are off to University in the next coming months. Sefran is going to the University of Central Lancashire (I think?) to read History with Japanese, Jalada is going to the University of York to read Computer Systems and Software Engineering.
  • We got our A-Level results, and they were good (obviously, otherwise we wouldn’t be going to Uni!
  • We went to the Pokemon Summer Day Camp 2007 in Peterborough. Check out the video, and pictures on our Flickr.
  • It was Jalada’s Birthday on the 13th August, he is now 18! The hosts’ last birthday.
  • Jalada went on holiday to South Cyprus with Elysium (Toni).
• Anime:
  • Sefran reviews Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei, and gives it a massive 9.5/10 and a big LiH recommendation! He also spelt shcrizofrenic (sic) wrong, and familiarility (sic).
• Tech:
  • Microsoft Vista SP1 Beta Builds have been circulating the interwebs. I made a slight mistake in the show, it’s not that close to coming out, Microsoft have quashed some of the rumours by saying it’s a way off yet. This is subject to change
  • Suprnova.org is back, under new management; The Pirate Bay!
  • We had some feedback from DEbdrup about the DNS stuff last episode. He mentioned that you can combine it with OpenDNS to get all the features of that service. What’s more, it’s really easy to combine it into BIND, which we talked about last show.
• Gaming:
  • We review Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, at last. We give it 7.5/10.
  • We talk about some news; Bioshock release, World in Conflict Demo, Medal of Honour Airborne, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts Beta, New Phoenix Wright game, and the gaming conventions going on at the moment. GG to all!

We took a bit of footage. We’re still new to the whole video thing, hell I’ve only just managed to work out how to encode properly…sorta…This is 10 minutes long but is about 80MB. I will be putting a smaller version up soon, it’s just ‘cos I can’t be assed to encode yet AGAIN because I keep misjudging it.

So anyway, enjoy, it’s a bit shakey, but what the hell, it’s better than nothing!

If you’d like to see more Video ‘featurettes’, let us know and we’ll see what we can do. We are hopefully going to a Nintendo Pokemon event in a few days, so perhaps we’ll take our video camera along with us!

The shows will begin again in a couple of weeks, it is likely that they will be the final few Life in Hex shows in the current format, as both of us will be leaving for university in September/October. The Life in Hex name will stay alive through our community, and also we are going to continue the show as best as we can in some shape or form. It is likely to turn into an informal show, and may go on a hiatus for a few months while we settle in to our universities.

It may even end up more ‘featurette’ style like this kind of video. Who knows what’s in store…
